The first ever Marco Pierre White pub – featuring a menu written with him – has opened its doors in Felixstowe.

The Queen’s Head is a new pub at the junction of Queens Road and Orwell Road and aims to be a community hub.

Its launch follows the opening of a new boutique-style hotel called Hotel Coco and a new Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill restaurant. 

The hotel – formerly the Brook Hotel – was given a major £750k-plus makeover in order to house the new businesses.

The pub aims to appeal to locals and to visitors to Felixstowe who want to enjoy quality food and drink in a more casual setting than a formal restaurant.

It will serve “traditional” pub grub including  the celebrated chef’s Colonel Mustard’s scotch egg, French Onion soup made with house ale, pub favourite ham, egg and chips and a selection of traditional pickles which customers can enjoy with their favourite pint. Customers can also enjoy cockles, eggs and walnuts.

The pub will be showing Sky Sports and also features a darts board.

General manager Andrew Vales said it was “great news” that the business was bucking the trend  “when you hear almost daily that pubs across the country are closing their doors”.

“To be the first Marco Pierre White Ale House is hugely exciting and we’re delighted that we can now start pulling pints and serving classic pub food,” he said.

“The Great British pub is more than just a place to drink beer. We also want this to become a real hub where local residents, families and community groups feel comfortable to meet up and enjoy the atmosphere of a venue that has been devised by one of the country’s most respected hospitality greats.”
